Vesper Charm is inspired by classic, SNES JRPG’s, featuring original hand-drawn artwork and a fun “Charge Turn Based” battle system. It is also an homage to games like Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire 2.
FIG is a survival horror experience in the style of an 8bit, NES game. Heavily inspired by the classic Resident Evil series, FIG is about finding keys and escaping the Fig Room, a haunting place that exists outside of reality.
FIG was also ranked as one of Newgrounds Top 5 games of December, 2021!
My plan when it comes to creating games has always been to start at the beginning of the console cycle, with games created in the style of early NES and SNES games and then gradually work my way up and progress to 32bit and 3D games, sequentially in the same order that they developed across the span of the 7 console generations. My goal is to learn game design chronologically as opposed to jumping straight to making current gen games in order to gain a deeper understanding of the process as a whole. Current gen games are so complex at this point that it’s easy to get distracted with things like graphics and trying to compete with pre-existing games. The people making those games now have decades worth of experience from years of creating games from older console generations, so that’s really what I’m trying to emulate.
Vesper Charm is the first in a trilogy of short games.
So the next game I make might be closer to an early PS1 or Sega Saturn game. Something that combines 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds before committing to a full on 3D game. I also just like having the ability to make the type of games I wished I could make in my youth, when 2D sprite based games were the norm, so I’m not in a huge rush to make the leap to 3D at the moment.
It’s been a really fun learning experience though, and I’m excited to get creative and experiment with the possibilities of what a “game” can actually be.
